Cosplay: dressing up as a videogame or comic book character

What To Do:Cosplay, short for costume play, is a pastime increasing in popularity. It involves dressing up as characters from comics and video games.

Where:Nightline travelled to the birthplace of cosplay, Japan, to check it out.

Why Do It: The Cosplayers Nightline spoke to had spent around 200,000 yen (NZ$2000) on their costumes, not unusual in this vibrant and creative country.

One cosplayer we found had 30 costumes, which is excessive. Luckily some characters, like E-Honda from Street Fighter 2, requite minimal effort.

How To Do It:Dressing up.

Cosplayers are a common sight in Japan, but to many tourists they remain a mystery.

Sarah Palin Shopping: What does $150,000 get you?

What To Do: According to financial disclosure records, the accessorizing began in early September and included bills from Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York for a combined $49,425.74.

The records also document a couple of big-time shopping trips to Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis, including one $75,062.63 spree in early September.

The RNC also spent $4,716.49 on hair and makeup through September after reporting no such costs in August.

Where:September payments were also made to Barney’s New York ($789.72) and Bloomingdale’s New York ($5,102.71).

Macy’s in Minneapolis, another store fortunate enough to be situated in the Twin Cities that hosted last summer’s Republican National Convention, received three separate payments totaling $9,447.71.

What hasn’t been apparent is where the clothes came from – her closet back in Wasilla or from the campaign coffers in Washington.

Why Do It:The cash expenditures immediately raised questions among campaign finance experts about their legality under the Federal Election Commission's long-standing advisory opinions on using campaign cash to purchase items for personal use.

Politico asked the McCain campaign for comment on Monday, explicitly noting the $150,000 in expenses for department store shopping and makeup consultation that were incurred immediately after Palin’s announcement. Pre-September reports do not include similar costs.

Early Voting : voting location, where do i vote, where to vote in texas, where to vote early, early voting in georgia

What To Do: Americans are turning out en masse to get their votes in ahead of the November 4 US presidential election, with a surge in early-voting Democrats suggesting Barack Obama may lead the vote tally thus far.

Where: Huge numbers of people queued up at libraries, malls and schools to get their picks in early in key battleground states like Ohio, Florida and Nevada, as Americans sought to avoid the long lines, registration and voting machine hiccups that marred the 2004 presidential vote, election officials said.

Why Do It: "Early voting has steadily increased from 14 percent in 2000 to 20 percent in 2004, and (we) predict that as many as a third of the electorate in 2008 will cast their votes before November 4," said Paul Gronke, who heads the Early Voting Center at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.

How To Do It: But the high numbers have come with many states -- now 33 of 50 -- allowing people to vote by mail or in person ahead of election day without having to give any excuse, such as being away on election day.
