Cosplay: dressing up as a videogame or comic book character

What To Do:Cosplay, short for costume play, is a pastime increasing in popularity. It involves dressing up as characters from comics and video games.

Where:Nightline travelled to the birthplace of cosplay, Japan, to check it out.

Why Do It: The Cosplayers Nightline spoke to had spent around 200,000 yen (NZ$2000) on their costumes, not unusual in this vibrant and creative country.

One cosplayer we found had 30 costumes, which is excessive. Luckily some characters, like E-Honda from Street Fighter 2, requite minimal effort.

How To Do It:Dressing up.

Cosplayers are a common sight in Japan, but to many tourists they remain a mystery.
