Jet through the rapids in Montreal

Where: The Lachine Rapids in Montreal, Canada

What To Do: An amazing experience you will not forget. Combination of a roller coaster ride, white water rafting, and sheer pandemonium. Get your heavy water hear on and take a ride in a boat that is designed to jet through the toughest water on earth - and did I mention you will get wet? Don't do this if you don't like water!

#1 Reason To Do It: The thrill

Why Do It: Montreal might not come to mind when you are thinking about seat-of-your-pants thrill rides, but is the reason to do it. An amazing experience in a place where you least expect it.

How To Do It: Packaged rides are available right from the downtown river front area of Montreal.

Hike to the tea house on Lake Louise

Where: Lake Louise, Banff, Alberta, Canada

What To Do: Hike around the lake towards the Plane of Six glaciers tea house. When you get there, make sure you spend some time drinking some great tea and eating the home made bread. The hike makes everything taste amazing! Make sure you bring a camera.

#1 Reason To Do It: The Scenery

Why Do It: Lake Louise is so perfect looking you almost forget that it is a wilderness area. Taking the 6 kilometer hike to the tea house is a great way to experience beyond just the "bus tour" picture points. Make sure you bring a lot of water, since the elevation gain gives you a good workout.

How To Do It: The trail starts just behind Chateau Lake Louise and continues up along side the lake toward the glacier.

Raft the rapids on Kicking Horse

Where: Kicking Horse River, Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada

What To Do: Take a rafting trip down this emerald green, snaking and suprising river.

#1 Reason To Do It: The drops

Why Do It: I have been on many rivers and this one has always stuck out in my mind for 2 reasons. First, the river is really narrow and the water flows really fast, there are a lot of drops, and even when it is late in the season there is a lot of water. Second, the weather adds an unpredictable twist and can really enhance the intensity of the experience. One time it snowed on my trip in August.

How To Do It: This is near the Banff and Lake Louise area and there are several rafting companies that will book trips down the river.

When To Do It: Usually when the river calms down a bit after the snow melt in the July or August time frame.

Descend into the Valley of the Gods

Where: Near Mexican Hat, UT, USA

What To Do: Drive the 17 mile dirt road that descends into the valley where the odd colums, rock shapes and spires that make up Monument Valley.

#1 Reason To Do It: The view.

Why Do It: You don't get an opportunity like this to actually drive into a valley where there are so many natural wonders. Usually you must hike on foot to see such this, but this gives you a great way of inching toward the floor at a slow pace in your car.

How To Do It: Using a car, jeep, van or motorcycle. Big rigs will have a problem navigating the sometimes hair-pin turns. You must start from a Northern approach from US 191 and then joins FR242. Make sure to go slow, but take time to stop every once in a while to take pictures.

When To Do It: Spring or Summer.

Dine at sunset in Hong Kong

Where: Hong Kong Regent (Intercontinental Hotel), Kowloon side of Hong Kong, China

What to do: The famous view of Hong Kong island's tall buildings with Victoria Peak behind is best seen at night from the restaurant in the Hong Kong Regent Hotel, also known as the Intercontinental Hotel. The dinner is ok, but the view is amazing. The restaurant is at the bottom of 2 story windows that span 2 floors. They are seamless and offer close to a 180 degree view, depending on where you sit. Alternative experience is to have a drink in the bar, which is above the restaurant.

#1 Reason to do it: The view.

Why do it: There are only a few skylines in the world that are as recognizable as Hong Kong Island. It is truly amazing to see and watch how this icon of a city transforms itself with light.

How to do it:
Just make reservations at one of the restaurants, or take your chances and walk in.

When to do it: The best time is to make sure you get there before the sun goes down, so that you will see all the dramatic changes in light as the sun goes down and all the electric lights come on from the buildings and billboards.
